(only 2 months late!)
Jack also chose to have his birthday at Chuck E Cheese this year, which was perfect since I still had credit from Jayci's party. I had purchased several vouchers from city deals and only used half at hers. We did a small, fun little family party, although upon leaving Jess vowed to never step foot in that place for a looooooooong time!
To go along with the theme of the cake, we (I. Jess slept) threw together a last minute rainbow party. I say last minute because I was planning on doing the party after Jack's real birthday (Aug. 1st) and then my awesome sis-in-law Aleesa reminded me that the Chuck E Cheese credit expired July 31, which happened to be the next day. So I called everyone up, said we were having a party in the morning, ended up staying up all night (see below), threw a fun party that Jack loved, and came home relieved that now I didn't have to do one the next week!

Jack came running up ecstatic because he had won so many tickets with one quarter! We couldn't have planned a better gift if we tried!
Jess and his "BESTIE" Eric.
(He hates that word so I had to use it. Naturally.)
(Actually, I hate it too.)
(Really really hate it!)
My poor shy little Xander went through a stage where he'd just scream and cry around unfamiliar people and crowds, and Chuck E Cheese was just too much for him. Jess was awesome and was the only one able to calm him down. He held him in that arm almost the whole time!
"Jayci, say cheese!"
"Ok, now give me a normal smile."
I guess I take what I can get!
Several months ago I happened upon a blog that took me here. Jack was with me and told me that he wanted me to make that for his birthday. I said I would, and that was the end of it. That memory didn't resurface a single time until the day before Jack's party when he reminded me about the cake he wanted, and that I had agreed to make. To make a very long story short, I pulled a complete all-nighter and voila! Jack got his cake, every bit made from scratch. Although I certainly don't recommend this (and even felt the heat of chastisement for it from President Uchtdorf!), Jack's reaction and excitement made it worth it!
Jess came home and gave Jack another party. A "wash the muddy jeep" party that the kids had just as much fun at! And it was free! (Almost) And the best part? I got a nap!!! Thanks papa, we love you!
I think I will always do birthday parties before (or after) the actual birthday because I loved having a relaxing day where we were free to do what we wanted. Jack opened his birthday cereal (a tradition from my childhood that I've continued. My kids LOVE browsing the cereal aisle and picking whatever they want since we don't normally buy sugar cereal. It's also nice when they ask/beg for certain cereals on regular grocery trips to be able to say, "Sure, you can have that for your birthday cereal!") and spent the day on Grandma dates getting far too spoiled!
We ended the day at Fudrucker's, Jack's favorite restaurant. I've said it before, and I'm sure I'll continue to say it for the rest of my life, but I can't believe how fast time flies! Jack, I can't believe how fast you are growing up! We absolutely adore you! You're sweet, tender heart is an irreplaceable treasure in our home! Happy 6th birthday!
