Mormon Standard Time....and then some

Merry Christmas to all and a happy new year!!!  It's always nice to hear that, even 8 days late.  Trust me.

I never know what to expect with my children, even though I usually think I do, but really, I don't.  They always surprise me.

Here's a conversation between Jack and Jayci that was document-worthy.
(I asked Jack what Jesus' earthly father's name was)
Jack: "Jovis"
Jayci: "No Jack, it's Jozis"
Jack: "No, it's Jofus"

On Christmas morning Jess and I prepped the cameras and waited for the big reveal.  After months, weeks, days, hours, and finally minutes of anticipation and excitement, the kids came running down the hall, passed the stockings stuffed full on the floor, passed the presents under the tree, right up to the front window.  They opened the blinds looking for santa, then turned around and told us that santa didn't come.

Last year they would open a present and just want to take it out and play with it without bothering with the rest of the presents.  I ended up putting away several for birthdays.  This year I swore I wouldn't get them too much, just a few each.  Well of course this is the year they realize how cool and fun it is to actually open presents.  Of course they just wanted to open and move on.  Of course we were done with Christmas morning in about 10 minutes.   Of course with them it was one of the best days ever!

However, there are a few exceptions where my expectations are right exactly on the dot.

Like when we make cookies and gingerbread houses.  I fully expect them to lick all the frosting off the knife, pour on mountains of sprinkles, eat the decoration candy, get covered in stickiness, light up with excitement, and be as cute as can be.

Those gingerbread houses look so much better than ours ever do. Our always look like crap. It's funny how the kids really only care about eating the treats and licking the frosting leaving the parents to do all of the other stuff. :)
