Our sweet Primary President Kathy Gowans called me last week. She said she wanted to share a special experience involving Jack in primary. Jayci was supposed to give the opening prayer, but for some reason there was a mix up and Jack was called up to give it. Sister Gowans said she believed it was more divine intervention than a mix up because the Lord knew someone needed him to say the prayer. She said Jack gave one of the sweetest prayers ever said, and in it he expressed his gratitude that his teacher, Sister Pulley, was back to teach them. Sister Pulley is a wonderful elderly single woman who has had hardships, including a daughter battling cancer, that have required her time and attention, so Jack's class has understandably had many substitutes. She has been so amazing in trying to understand Jack and help him learn to love and succeed in primary. She loves Jack and he knows it, and Jack loves her in return.
When Jack expressed his gratitude for her, Sister Pulley broke down in tears. Sister Gowans believed it was the right "mix up" that needed to happen to benefit someone in need. She said she can tell that Jack knows who he is, and who's he is, and that Jess and I are doing a wonderful job as his parents.
Little did she know that at that moment that was something I needed to hear. Like Jack's prayer, her phone call was divine intervention that left me in tears. Because of some of the things that Jack struggles with, people have a hard time understanding him, and why he can't just sit still, or quit bothering and disrupting those around him. I get frustrated that many can't see him for the sweet and special boy that he truly is because he doesn't fit the mold of the perfect student. Any classroom setting is a struggle for him and I get frustrated to tears with the "bad" phone calls.
I'm so thankful for Sister Gowans and Sister Pulley, and for the other awesome primary workers and teachers who love these sweet kids and see them for who they really are, children of our God in Heaven. I'm thankful for the people who listen to that still small voice and work as instruments in the Lord's hands to bless and uplift those around them. I'm thankful for their examples. I'm thankful for Jack, and that he is my son. Most of all I'm thankful that the Lord is so aware of each of us and knows not just the big things, but the small and simple things that are needed, for it is "by small and simple things are great things brought to pass".

I can relate to those "bad phone calls". So I know how refreshing it is to have someone tell you good things about your child instead of just negative.
You should be proud that you're raising your kids right! :-)
