Experiment: Beauty School

AAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUGHHH!
(My sub-title to this post!)

On Friday morning, I dropped Jayci off at Dallin and Sarah's house, who were generous enough to watch her while I got my hair done.  I brought Jack with me because he had an allergic reaction to something and had hives all over so I wanted to keep an eye on him.   About an hour later I got a call from Dallin that went about like this:

"Hey Jill ....(awkward hesitation)...um how's it going?"
"Good, what's up?"
"Uh, how's your haircut coming along?"
(thinking, hmmm, something weird's going on, Dallin never calls me, especially to ask about my hair) "I still have color in so my haircut hasn't even started yet.......whhhyyy?"
"OH.....cool.....um... because Jayci got a haircut too."

More was said, more was explained.  He told me she gave herself and Kelton a haircut.  He warned me several times that it was VERY short.

"I'm just warning you, you aren't going to like it"

Lots of disbelieving laughter (on my part, at least) even though I apologized over and over for Kelton's hair cut.  I reassured them that it was ok, I wasn't mad, and not to try to fix it until I saw the damage.

After I hung up the only clear thought that graced my mind, and stuck there for the next several hours was,
"THAT LITTLE SH**!"

I was actually grateful it happened at their house and not mine because it gave me several hours to prepare myself.  One of my new year's resolutions is to bring more softness into our home, especially with my children and the way I mother them.  Had I been the one to find the haircuts, and had it been at my house with no warning, that probably would have all gone out the window.

Poor Auntie Sarah felt sooo guilty she was in tears when I first saw Jayci.  And then I felt guilty for her feeling guilty, since it was my little stinker who did it.  (Although, I really don't think all the credit can go to her.  The back of her hair was pretty elaborately cut, and she later told me that Lilly cut the back.  Not in an accusing way either, which I can usually identify, so sorry Dallin and Sarah, I think Lilly wanted to be a beautician as well! :) Honestly, I was just able to laugh about the whole thing.  (Not in front of Jayci though, she doesn't need to know I think it's funny).  I care that she was sneaky and naughty, but not really sad about her hair.  It's definitely one of those situations where the natural consequence does all the teaching.

Before
(No, I did not pose her, she is a little poser!)

After
(but before we got it fixed)

And Kelton

When I got there we found more blonde hair hidden away in a corner.

Luckily Jenna was in town doing hair so we headed right back up to Riverton (I had just come from there to get my hair done) and let Jenna work her miracles.  For what Jenna had left to work with she was able to give Jayci a cute little pixi-type cut that actually looks really cute on Jayci.  With her cute face she could probably pull off anything!  But don't give her too much positive attention or she'll get more crazy ideas! :)

I love that I caught Jack in the background of this picture.  I just laughed when I noticed him in it because of how similar their hair is now.  Jack's is even a bit longer.  They look even more like twins now!

One thing is for sure.  Life is NEVER boring with this girl around!
OH Jayci, what would we do without you?!?

There is No way she did that to herself! With 8 kids I have had plenty of kids cut thier hair and it's always in the front when they do it to themselves. Kids will be kids though and it's bound to happen at least once:0) YOu are good to laugh about it. It really does look adoreable on her, she pulls the "pixie" look off nicely. I love it with the headband on like you had it on Sunday. Jayci you are too cute!

I thought she looked adorable when I saw her on Sunday! It's got to be pretty easy to do, too!

Oh my! I was just telling my girls NOT to ever cut their own hair (because Macy was talking about how she wanted too)! Oh...too funny! She sounds a lot like Macy :)

HOLY COW, that is quite the beauty school practice!!! I would've been glad that I had a few hours too!!! At least it makes for TWO easy hairs to do now!!!!

Ha ha love this post, I think I would do and feel the same, except I'd probably yell profanities out the window on the freeway so no one could hear. Hey now she looks like that famous model twiggy, and she's got way too cute a face for any hair cut worries. You're an incredible MOM! I look up to you a lot.

Lauren was never allowed to even look at scissors until we were cretin that she was more obsessed with her hair then I was. (every time we go in for a trim, I have to reassure her that we are not cutting any length off). I don't know what I would have done if she did that. It looks so terrible before you got it fixed, but it looks so cute after. Who ever did it did a wonderful job. Poor Sarah! But I do think that Jayci looks adorable in her new do.

Oh.My.Goodness! I am laughing my head off right now. She actually looks really cute with her little pixie cut though.

I can just imagine the whole scenario played out. Wish I could have been there but I do feel bad for Sarah. You hate it when it's at your house that the kiddos do something like this.

Oh my goodness I was laughing so hard!!! I LOVE your conversation with Dallin. And I have to say, I LOVE when kids cut their hair and think it is so funny. . . we'll see if I feel the same way when Kenley actually does it. Jenna did a good job and she really is a gorgeous girl that could pull off any haircut.
